While the English Premier League and the rest of European football near the end of their seasons, we are barely a quarter of the way into the Chinese Super League.

But after just eight games of the 30-game campaign, there is a runaway leader at the top of the table.

Beijing Guoan won again this weekend to keep up their 100 per cent record in the league and to continue to set the pace at the top of the league.

They also extended their lead from three points to five and, more importantly for those who hope to see the CSL title return to the capital for the first time in a decade, they came through the first real test of their title credentials with aplomb.

A trip to Tianhe Stadium to face Guangzhou Evergrande is never an easy task and the rain, which did not let up during the game, did not make matters any easier.

Nevertheless, the visitors were dominant and had the ball in the net three times and were good value for their 1-0 win, with Jonathan Viera scoring the winner after some neat interplay with teammate Renato Augusto.
