New boy Jeremy Lin was the star of the show on his Chinese Basketball Association debut with the Beijing Shougang Ducks on Sunday night.
Lin, who only signed for the side in the summer after being released by the NBA champions Toronto Raptors, got off to a winning start against the Tianjin Pioneers, winning 103-81 in the capital’s neighbouring city.

The 31-year-old top-scored for his team and in the game with 25 points, while notching six rebounds and nine assists in his first taste of CBA action. He was named MVP in the process.

At the end of the half, Lin had scored only one of six shots from open court but hit all eight of his free throws. However, he was often double or triple teamed on possession. He picked up in the third quarter, hitting 14 points.

There was disappointment that Lin did not make a three-pointer despite having five attempts from beyond the arc. He had announced before the game that he would contribute 3,000 yuan (US$426) to charity for every three-pointer he makes this season.
