The case against Sun Yang has been postponed while both sides negotiate an official transcript of the hearing, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has announced.

Translation issues dogged the public hearing in Switzerland last month, where the original translator was replaced by a Chinese CAS official who could also speak English.

Sun then tried to bring in a third translator from the public gallery for his closing statements, an attempt dismissed by the judge.

The CAS statement confirmed “some concerns were raised with respect to the quality of the interpretation of Mr Yang’s testimony” and that is behind the delay.

“The parties are currently preparing an agreed-upon written transcript of the proceedings, including a full translation of Mr Yang’s testimony, which the panel will work from when deliberating and preparing the arbitral award,” the statement said.
