China’s women’s football team have been quarantined in a Brisbane hotel after arriving in Australia for their Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualifying tournament.
The team landed at 9am on Wednesday, according to Queensland officials, and now face several days in quarantine. None of the team is said to show any signs of illness.
“The Department of Health is working closely with them and with the management of the hotel where they are staying to ensure that they are appropriately isolated from other guests as well as staff and to ensure that protocols are put in place to check their health and to keep them well,” Queensland health minister Steven Miles told the News.com.au website.
This is the latest setback for the squad, who have travelled without Wuhan natives Wang Shuang and Yao Wei. The qualifying tournament was originally set to be held in Wuhan, as was their training camp. The qualifiers originally moved from Wuhan to Nanjing before being moved to Sydney.
Before flying to Brisbane the team were training in isolation in Suzhou. The team will reportedly remain in isolation until February 5.
