The first Chinese-American NBA champion, Jeremy Lin, has posted in support of Black Lives Matter on his Instagram, but the posts have been met with anti-China sentiment and commenters asking why he is not standing up for Hong Kong.

In a post on Tuesday, Lin shared an image depicting a clenched black fist with the messages “Asian for Black Lives ” and “No Justice. No Peace.”

The 10-year NBA veteran, who moved to the Beijing Ducks in the Chinese Basketball Association ahead of the 2019-20 season last autumn, also wrote his own caption.

“Black. Lives. Matter. They really do, they truly truly do. For many of us, this discussion can start at home. Man...please explain to your parents, your siblings, your friends why it’s so important to fight for justice for Black lives. Be educated, be informed, be a good person.”

This was followed by another post of a black screen with no caption. Both of the posts were bombarded with comments, with many asking Lin, “How about Hong Kong?”

Other users went further. “If you care about humanity, stop making money for the communist China. You are from Taiwan, not the f****** China”, wrote an account called “hksoldierofficial” to Lin, who was born to Taiwanese parents in California.
