The Chinese Basketball Association tipped off its 2020-21 season on Sunday but there were already farcical scenes in one game where one of the teams were a no-show.

Bayi Rockets did not turn up for their game against the Beijing Ducks meaning that the game was forfeited but that only came after the referee waited 15 minutes as per CBA regulations.

The Ducks – who lost star player Jeremy Lin in the off-season after he left to pursue his NBA dream – were given a 20-0 win.

All of the points were given to Beijing’s new signing Li Muhao, who had the lowest squad number (2) so was handed them by default on the scoreboard.

Technically Bayi were the home team despite all teams being based in Zhuji, Zhejiang province, for the new season.
