Chinese darts player Liu Chengan booked his place to compete at the fabled Alexandra Palace in London later this year with a 6-4 win over compatriot Zhan Qingyu at the Chinese PDC World Championship Qualifier event.

The 38-year-old Liu will return after 14 years to make his second appearance at the World Darts Championship, the sport’s premier event, after last competing there in 2006. On that occasion he was defeated 3-0 in the first round by three-time world champion John Part from Canada.

Liu averaged 87.82 and scored three century check-outs in an impressive win over Zhan on Saturday.
