Chinese interest in the WTA Qatar Total Open 2021 is over after Zheng Saisai was comprehensively beaten by Japan’s Misaki Doi in Doha on Wednesday.
Their round of 32 match lasted one hour and 27 minutes with the Japanese triumphing in straight sets – 6-4, 6-3.
China’s top-ranked player Wang Qiang went out the previous day in the round of 32, also in straight sets.
Wang lost to US player Jessica Peluga 6-3, 6-1 in one hour and 15 minutes on Tuesday. That is now an eight-game losing streak against top 100 players for China’s No 1 and the world No 35.

Her last victory over a player inside the top 100 was when she shocked Serena Williams at the Australian Open last year.
China’s other player at the Doha event, Zhu Lin, failed to make it out of the qualifiers.
China sport still punching below its weight
Zhu had beaten Jesika Maleckova in her first qualifier before losing to fellow Czech Kristyna Plískova in a second qualifier on Sunday.
Zheng and Zhu lost their doubles game on Monday, when they were beaten by Katerina Siniakova and Barbora Krejcíkova.
Zhu was the Chinese player to go the furthest at this year’s Australian Open last month, reaching the second round where she was beaten by Belgium’s Elise Mertens.
