Slaven Bilic got off to a losing start to life in the Chinese Super League as his Beijing Guoan side lost the “China derby” to Shanghai Shenhua on Friday night.

Second half goals from Giovanni Moreno and Wu Xi were enough to secure Shenhua victory despite a late Li Lei lifeline for the Beijing side.

Bilic’s side enjoyed two-thirds of possession but failed to create as many chances as the Shanghai outfit at the Kunshan Sports Centre Stadium.

Shenhua’s city rivals Shanghai Port are top of group B after recording a 6-1 win over Tianjin Jinmen Tiger in their opener.
