- Former China under-18 international has struggled with injury since signing in 2019 and will not get a new contract

Bernard Sun, the first Chinese player to sign for Hong Kong-owned Birmingham City, has left the English Championship club bidding the fans farewell on social media.
Sun, 22, has struggled with injuries during his time in England and never made the first team squad, while his appearances for the under-23s were also limited.
“After two unfortunate seasons I will be leaving the club. I would like to thank all my teammates with whom I was on and off the pitch every day, ” Sun wrote on Instagram.
Former teammate Jude Bellingham, who since broke into Blues first team before signing for German Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund, wished Sun well.
“Head up bro, all the best,” Bellingham wrote in a comment on Sun’s Instagram post. The England international, who was named into Gareth Southgate’s 33-man preliminary Euro 2020 squad on Tuesday, also posted a blue heart and a goat emoji.
Sun arrived at St Andrews as a free agent after leaving Spanish side Estudiantes de Murcia in September 2019 becoming the club’s first Chinese signing. He penned a two-year contract, which will expire on July 1 when he will leave the club.
