China’s No 1 Wang Qiang was beaten by US teenager Coco Gauff for the second time in the past two weeks to end her French Open run at the second round. Wang, who just missed out on being seeded at Roland Garros, lost in straight sets to the 17-year-old – just as she did at the Emilia-Romagna Open in Italy on May 22. Gauff triumphed 6-2, 7-6 after dominating the second set tiebreak. Wang should have done better when she had set point in the 10th game. Wang had come back from a set down in her first round win over Taiwan’s Hsieh Su-wei but there was to be no repeat on Thursday as Gauff saved the set point and went on to walk the tiebreak 7-1, finishing with a backhand winner.
