Tokyo Olympics: China’s diving ‘Dream Team’ off to perfect start as Shi Tingmao, Wang Han win women’s synchro gold

After a golden Saturday, China continued their strong start to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics with the “Dream Team” diving squad winning Sunday’s women’s synchronised 3-metre springboard final.

China are hoping for a clean sweep of gold medals across the diving events, and Shi Tingmao and Wang Han got things off to the perfect start, leading from the first round before securing the title with 326.40 points.

The pair performed an inward two-and-a-half somersaults pike with a 3.0 degree of difficulty for their last dive, and earned scores ranging from 8.0 to 9.0.

Canada’s Jennifer Abel and Melissa Citrini-Beaulieu took silver with 300.78 points, while bronze went to Germany’s Lena Hentschel and Tina Punzel on 284.97.
