Wang, who swam an Asian record time of 1:55.00, spoke to Chinese media after his gold.
“I feel incredible. Like a dream, I did my best to prepare before the Games. For the project, I must first thank my motherland for providing a good training environment in such an uneasy situation of the pandemic. Thanks to my coach Zhu Zhigen and the team doctor for their help,” Wang said.

The Chinese swimmer was the fastest going into the final, clocking 1:56.22 in his semi, with the Rio 2016 bronze medallist relegating Duncan Scott, of Britain, into silver.
