China’s No 1 tennis player Zhang Shuai has pulled out of the US Open warm-up Canadian Open after suffering a thigh injury.

World No 51 Zhang cut short her National Bank Open in Montreal midway through her match with Britain’s Johanna Konta.

Zhang, who was not picked to represent China at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, had won the first set 6-2 but was down 5-2 in the second set of the WTA 1000 event when she had to stop.
