Thomas and Uber Cup: China, Indonesia, Malaysia learn fates after 2020 draw

  • Chinese women will face Malaysia, hosts Denmark and Canada in delayed 2020 tournament

China’s men’s and women’s badminton teams have learned their fate for the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup competitions after the draw for the long delayed 2020 edition was made.

In the men’s Thomas Cup, the defending champion Chinese team have been drawn against India, the Netherlands and Tahiti in group C.

Meanwhile, the Chinese women will face Malaysia, Denmark and Canada in group D of the Uber Cup while holders Japan have been drawn with Indonesia, Germany and France in group A.

Both tournaments will take place in Aarhus, Denmark from October 9-17, following close on the heels of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games badminton tournaments that finished earlier this month.

China won two golds in Tokyo with Chen Yufei winning the women’s singles and the mixed doubles pair of Wang Yilyu and Huang Dongping taking gold in an all-Chinese final.

Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen won the men’s singles while Li Yang and Wan Chi-lin of Taiwan won the men’s doubles. The women’s doubles was won by Indonesian duo Greysia Polii and Apriyani Rahayu.
