China women drop in Fifa rankings after Olympic humiliation

China’s women’s football team have dropped in the Fifa rankings following their humiliating exit from the group stage of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
The Steel Roses lost 5-0 to Brazil, drew 4-4 with Zambia and then were beaten 8-2 by the Netherlands at the Games with many fans calling for the sacking of coach Jia Xiuquan .
China have dropped two places from 15th to 17th following their early Olympic exit and remain Asia’s fourth best team behind North Korea, Australia and Japan.

North Korea have risen to ninth despite not playing since March, 2019, while Australia, Japan and China have all dropped in the updated rankings. Australia finished fourth in Tokyo after losing the bronze medal game to the US.

Olympic champions Canada rose to sixth while silver medallists Sweden are into second behind the US, ahead of Germany, the Netherlands and France.
