The 2019 Chinese Basketball Association MVP Wang Zhelin has been traded to the Los Angeles Lakers as part of the deal that takes Spain’s Marc Gasol to the Memphis Grizzlies.
Wang’s draft rights went to the Lakers with Gasol, a 2024 second-round draft pick and US$250,000 going to Memphis, the Lakers confirmed in a statement.
Wang, 27, was picked at No 57 overall by the Grizzlies in the second round of the 2016 NBA Draft but the China centre is yet to play in the NBA and has been with the Fujian Sturgeons in the CBA.

The 2.13m (7 foot) Wang has impressed with the Sturgeons and has been voted into the CBA All-Star game four times and was the league’s top rookie in 2013.
Last season Wang averaged 18.6 points, 10.7 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game across 36 appearances with his best stats coming when he won regular season MVP.
