The Chinese Super League has published its official best 11 players on the Fifa 22 video game, with five China international players making the cut. However, football fans were quick to point out that two of those are naturalised China internationals Elkeson and Ricardo Goulart, arguing that only three Chinese players have made the grade despite a number of high-profile foreigners turning their backs on China amid the Covid-19 pandemic and financial concerns. Elkeson – known as Ai Kesen in China – and Goulart, who goes by the Chinese name Gou Lat, swapped their Brazilian nationalities for Chinese ones after meeting five-year residence requirements. The Guangzhou FC pair have played for Li Tie’s China side in the current Fifa World Cup qualifying campaign for the Qatar 2022 tournament, which continues next week. Their three fellow Chinese internationals are Shanghai Port goalkeeper Yan Junling (73 overall rating) and their Guangzhou teammates Li Xuepeng and Zhang Lingpeng (both 71 overall), who have been named as the full-backs on the Fifa 22 team. Tamas Kadar of Guangzhou City and Henan Longmen’s Toni Sunjic (both 74 overall) complete the defence. Fifa 22 slows things down to breathe new life into series Shanghai Port’s Oscar, who leads the player ratings with 82 overall, plays in midfield along with Mousa Dembele of Guangzhou FC and Shenzhen’s Juan Fernando Quintero, both of whom have 79. The strike force sees 79-rated Elkeson and Goulart joined by Bejing Guoan’s Cedric Bakambu, with the DR Congo striker rated 80 overall. Posting on the official CSL Weibo account on Tuesday, the Chinese top flight listed out 11 players in a 4-3-3 formation for their almost 5.4 million followers. It was posted with the message: “EA Sports FIFA22 ability Overall value – Super League player of the strongest line-up.” Fans also pointed out this CSL team does not have the highest-rated players in China, with Marouane Fellaini – who has an overall rating of 75 – missing out. The former Manchester United and Everton player currently plays for Shandong Taishan in the CSL. Oscar and naturalised China players lead CSL Fifa 22 ratings As well as Fifa 22 – which is not listed on the Steam China page for PC users despite launching globally on October 1 – EA Sports also created Fifa Online 4 , the latest version of the free-to-play online game for Asian gamers. China has cracked down on gaming, limiting under-18s to just three hours per week and slowing approval for online games. Chinese football fans cannot even console themselves with real-life football in the meantime as the CSL has been on pause since mid-August, so the China national team can focus on their Fifa World Cup qualifiers. Tottenham star Son celebrates Fifa 22 rating ahead of release It has been reported in Chinese media that the league may resume in mid-December. The future of several CSL teams is up in the air amid financial concerns for their owners. The 2020 CSL champions Jiangsu FC folded ahead of the current season.
