We all know the Winter Olympics are about bringing people together through exciting and often dangerous sport events. But what also brings us together is our mutual admiration of the Olympics’ most dazzling athletes.
The hashtag #HunksoftheOlympics has trended on Weibo, China’s social media site, or #冬奥会帅哥 (DongaohuiShuaige) in Chinese, where many Netizens have fangirled over the Beijing Game’s “cute” and “sexy” stars.
So we’ve taken a look at the five men who have excelled at grabbing our attention for more than their sporting prowess.
American Samoa: Nathan Crumpton
Nathan Crumpton wowed audiences after entering the opening ceremony as American Samoa’s flag bearer oiled-up and shirtless.
Many were disappointed after Tongan cross-country skier Pita Taufatofua- hunk of the 2020 Tokyo Games- said he would not be coming to the Beijing Games, but to our delight Crumpton surprised us all and filled the eye-candy gap.
If he doesn’t win gold in his event at skeleton, it won’t matter because he’s already won the hearts of many fans across the globe.
Mexico: Donovan Carrillo
Donovan Carrillo is Mexico’s dreamy flag bearer. The 19-year-old is also the Latin American nation’s first figure skater to compete at the Olympics in 30 years.
Not only does he skate but he is a sports brand ambassador for Li-Ning Mexico and manages an Instagram account that has a following of more than 122K.
China: Zach Yuen
Zach Yuen is the Canadian-Chinese professional ice hockey player who will be leading team China. Yuen’s father is from Hong Kong and mother is from Guangdong Province, he plays for Beijing-based Kunlun Red Stars, China’s only team in the Russian Kontinental Hockey League.
Japan: Yuzuru Hanyu
Yuzuru Hanyu is the Japanese figure skater who won gold in the men’s figure skating competition at Pyeongchang 2018 and Sochi 2014. Japan’s prince of the rink is widely considered to be one of the greatest figure skaters of all time, whose army of fans have showered him with dolls after his performance.
Hungary: The Liu brothers
Technically there are six hunks on this list because really who can tell which brother is better looking- Shaoang or Shaolin?
The Liu brothers, who are from Hungary, took home the bronze medal in the short-track speedskating mixed team relay on Saturday. When reporters asked how he felt about the race, Shaolin wooed over fans with his perfect Chinese skills.
Shalin, 26 and Shaoang, 23, were born to a Chinese father and Hungarian mother and grew up training in short track in Jilin, China.
