Introduction

Day 4 started full of promise, and boy has Eileen Gu lived up to it. The teenager has bagged China's third gold medal of the 2022 Beijing Games with a storming final run in the women's freeski big air contest.

Still, questions persist over her nationality as she remained evasive on whether she still holds an American passport.

Gu pulled off a 1620 that scored a 94.50 knocking fierce rival Tess Ledeux off top spot. Gu then watched as Ledeux failed to match her run and took the first title of her Olympic career.

The other main event today was in the men's figure skating, where Nathan Chen smashed a world record held by fierce rival Yuzuru Hanyu. Facing off for the first time at the Beijing Games, Hanyu had to settle for a disappointing eighth in the short programme, with his Japanese teammates Yuma Kagiyama and Shoma Uno second and third.

Chen scored 113.97 to comfortably beat Hanyu's previous record of 111.82. China’s Jin Boyang was briefly top early on after posting a score of 90.98.
