Winter Olympics: Chinese netizens gush over friendship between golden girl Eileen Gu and snowboarder Su Yiming

Chinese netizens have found a new target for their affections, the love-filled friendship between Winter Olympians Eileen Gu and Su Yiming.
The pair’s close relationship became one of the top trending topics on social media platform Weibo, after gold-medal winner Gu posted about the friendship online on Wednesday.
Gu shared a nostalgic photo of her and Su standing with their snowboards and ski gear, noting that they had “come so far” since training together as children.

The freestyle skier referred to Su as her “day one”. The 17-year-old Su won a silver medal in slopestyle, becoming the first Chinese male snowboarder to win a medal at the Winter Games.
To her childhood friend, Gu wrote: “congrats again, love [you]”.
Su reposted the photo of the pair to his own Instagram account and congratulated Gu on her medal win, along with the caption: “We did it. Love you so much, lets do this more.”
The two took up the top spots of Twitter-like platform Weibo’s trending topics, generating almost 4.5 million new posts as of Wednesday afternoon.
