Versatile captain Wang Shanshan is included for her third global tournament as the Steel Roses prepare to fly to Australia to take on a “group of death” when the finals kick off this month.

The skipper, who has netted 55 times for her country, is one of six squad members, also including Wu Haiyan and Wang Shuang, who have appeared at two previous World Cups.

Three further players named in Wednesday’s announcement played at the previous World Cup in France, while the remaining 14 squad members will be making their first appearances at the tournament.

Enduring a miserable run of form this year, China are not the force they threatened to become when they lost narrowly to the United States in a penalty shoot-out in the 1999 final.
