China’s Paralympic gold medallists lauded as ‘amazing’, ‘best of the best’ on social media

On day one, Chinese athletes won four gold medals and set three world records to lay down a marker at the Paris Games.

Users on Chinese social media praised “amazing” Li Zhangyu and labelled China’s Paralympic gold medallists the “best of the best”.

On day one, Chinese athletes won four gold medals and set three world records to lay down a marker at the Paris Games.

Cyclist Li, competing at his fourth Paralympic Games, won his fifth gold and seventh medal overall with victory in the men’s C1 3,000 metres individual pursuit, having set a world record in qualifying.

Wang Xiaomei then did likewise in the women’s C1-3 3,000m individual pursuit with a gold and a world record.

And there was time for yet another world record as swimmer Chen Yi won gold in the women’s 50m freestyle S10, while Jiang Yuyan also claimed a gold in the women’s 50m freestyle S6.

Social media users in China lined up to lavish Li and the rest of China’s Paralympic gold medallists with praise.
