National Games: Chinese star Quan Hongchan ends diving hiatus, will compete for Guangdong
Triple Olympic gold medallist will take part in three events after not diving competitively since the World Cup Super Final in May

Chinese diving starlet Quan Hongchan has been named in Guangdong’s delegation for the National Games, ending her months-long break from the sport.
Quan, who has not competed since the World Aquatics Diving World Cup Super Final in Beijing on May 5, has been listed for three events: the women’s team, women’s synchronised 10m platform and women’s individual 10m platform.
The 18-year-old from Mazhang, Zhanjiang, will be looking to defend the individual gold and team gold she won at the 2021 Games in Shaanxi.
In three World Cup appearances earlier this year, including the first two legs in Guadalajara and Windsor, Quan teamed up with compatriot Chen Yuxi to win three straight gold medals in the synchronised 10m platform event.
However, the three-time Olympic champion lost to Chen on the individual front three times in as many events, in the space of just one month.

A decorated diver with five world titles and a pair of gold medals from the Hangzhou Asian Games, Quan then withdrew from May’s national championship, which doubled as the selection tournament for the National Games and the World Championships.
