China have named several Olympic champions in their squad for the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympic Games next month, including two foreign-born speed skaters who won gold medals for their countries of birth.

The champions in the 124-strong team include skiers Eileen Gu and Xu Mengtao, snowboarder Su Yiming and figure skating pair Sui Wenjing and Han Cong.

Also in the squad are South Korean-born Lin Xiaojun and Hungarian-born Liu Shaoang, who are both speed skaters and first-time representatives for China at the Olympics.

The list of 57 men and 67 women, released by the General Administration of Sport of China on Friday, showed that the delegation would compete in 20 events, including some of China’s strongest events: short-track speedskating and freestyle skiing.

The 22-year-old Gu, who won two gold medals and one silver medal at the 2022 Winter Olympics, is the only multi-event athlete in China’s squad at these Olympics. She will compete in freestyle skiing half-pipe, big air and slopestyle – the same events she did in Beijing.

Su, China’s youngest Winter Olympics champion, achieved his country’s breakthrough snowboard gold medal by claiming the men’s big air title at the 2022 Beijing Winter Games. Su will compete in the same event in Italy, as well as in the slopestyle, in which he won silver in 2022.
