Chinese javelin star Yan Ziyi has made it three Diamond League victories in a row at the meeting in Paris on Sunday, and booked her place in the end-of-season finals in the process.

The teenager produced a stunning throw of 67.44 metres, her second best distance of the year, with her first attempt at the Stade Charléty.

Two-time world under-20 champion Adriana Vilagos finished closest to Yan with a throw of 63.83m. Paris Olympics gold medallist Haruka Kitaguchi was third, with the 63.01m she managed with her first throw, the Japanese athlete’s best of the night.

Reigning world champion Juleisy Angulo of Ecuador finished last among 12 athletes who managed at least one successful throw.

So far this year, Yan owns the top three distances reached at a Diamond league meeting, with an Asian record best of 71.74m in Xiamen and a 67.11m effort in Oslo.

With Norway’s Sigrid Borge her closest challenger in fourth with a season best 65.00m, Yan will be a heavy favourite to win gold at the finals in Brussels in September, and at the Asian Games later that same month.
