Former Chinese women’s volleyball team setter Yao Di will join Italian club Imoco Volley, where she will reunite with her long-time international teammate Zhu Ting.

On Thursday, the club – which competes under the name Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano – finalised their 14-player roster for the coming season with the announcement of Zhu’s third-year contract extension, following the unveiling of Yao’s signing the previous day.

Born in 1992 and standing 182 centimetres tall, Yao will wear the No 12 jersey and serve as the backup to Joanna Wolosz. Yao will be making her return to the Italian Serie A after her previous stint with Scandicci.

“Welcome Yao Di to the team, the new season will be even more exciting with you,” the club posted on its official Chinese social media account.

In the announcement post, Yao stated that the Italian league was her “only choice” for this season and described the club as her “dream team”.

“I like the Palaverde [stadium] and its fans: Prosecco DOC is one of the best clubs in the world, and I am very happy to play for an extraordinary team that is making history,” she said.
