Cricket Hong Kong begins search for coach to guide side to 2024 T20 World Cup and regain city’s ODI status
- City’s cricket bosses looking for new men’s head coach after resignation of Trent Johnston
- Successful candidate will be tasked with meeting governing body’s ‘high expectations’ for team

Cricket Hong Kong have begun their search for a new men’s head coach, who will be tasked with regaining the city’s ODI status and reaching the T20 World Cup in 2024.
The governing body said it had “high expectations” for the national team and the successful candidate would need a minimum of five years’ experience “within a professional or semi-professional cricket environment” and have played at first class or international level.
Any coach would need a minimum of a level three qualification, although the advert said that level four would be an advantage as would “a deep understanding of the challenges facing Associate member cricket and/or the development of cricket in Hong Kong”.
Hong Kong are looking for a new head coach after the resignation of Trent Johnston last month, and his replacement would be expected to build on the summer tour and the side’s qualification for the Asia Cup.
In the advert, which has been placed on several prominent cricket websites, CHK highlighted the national team’s third place in the recent Challenge League B competition, fifth-placed finish at the 2022 T20 World Cup Qualifier B as well its qualification for the Asia Cup.
“Over the next 50-over cycle CHK has high expectations for the national team with the strategic objective to regain ODI status,” the advert said. “Short-term objectives will be to ensure the Hong Kong team qualifies for all upcoming ACC Asia Cup events and the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
“Performance at the upcoming Asian Games to be held in 2023 is also a high priority. Alongside the men’s team the men’s head coach will play an integral role in the delivery and development of the Hong Kong youth representative players and programme as a whole.”
