Jose Mourinho linked to Chinese Super League for next job along with Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Portugal national team
- Bookmakers link Portuguese with a move to China after he leaves Manchester United
- CSL offer was on the table but turned down by former Chelsea boss
Most of the focus in the aftermath of Jose Mourinho’s departure from Manchester United is on who will replace him but where will the Portuguese end up next?
The bookmakers have “Any Chinese Super League club“ as the fourth likeliest destination for the newly unemployed manager.
This is priced at $5.5 behind favourite Real Madrid, Inter Milan and the Portugal national side (all $3.5).
There is clearly interest from China.
Rumours linking Mourinho with a move to the Chinese Super League have been around since at least 2016.
He also announced he had turned down a lucrative offer to go to China in a 2017 interview, where he said he understood why many players have moved to the CSL.
Chinese football fans would clearly welcome the Portuguese, if social media is any indication.
Shanghai Shenhua and Dalian Yifang supporters responded to the news of his sacking with posters welcoming him to their respective clubs as if he had been confirmed as manager.
Many on Twitter have linked him with other clubs, including deposed champions Guangzhou Evergrande where he could replace Fabio Cannavaro.

The CSL is one place where Mourinho would be able to command a salary in keeping with the US$27 million he was reported to earn at Old Trafford.
It would also increase attention on the nascent league, where he would follow in the footsteps of Sven Goran Eriksson, Luiz Felipe Scolari and Marcello Lippi into the dugout.
