Former Germany and USA men’s national team manager Jurgen Klinsmann has refused to rule himself out of the China job.
“You never know what will happen,” the former Germany international told the Beijing Youth Daily.
“But when you make a decision, you need to have enough information, make lots of preparations. This is the first time for me to visit Beijing and I’m not familiar with Chinese culture.”
The former Inter Milan and Tottenham Hotspur striker was speaking to Chinese media on Sunday during a brief trip to Beijing to promote PP Sports’ “German Football Culture Month”.

The Suning-owned broadcaster has the rights to screen the Bundesliga in China until 2023 and they flew Klinsmann out to meet fans and the press.
The “Golden Bomber” also took in his first game in the capital, where he watched Chinese Super League leaders Beijing Guoan beat Henan Jianye at Workers’ Stadium.
Reports suggest he also had meetings regarding the national team role.

Klinsmann added that he had never dreamed that he would go on to coach his country, former club Bayern Munich or the US men’s national team so why not China?
“We don’t know what will happen in the future,” he said. “Let’s just wait. Time will tell.”
Time is one thing that Chinese football fans do not have a lot of, while another is patience as they look to qualify for their first World Cup since 2002.

Sections of their supporters and the media have already rounded on caretaker boss Fabio Cannavaro after only two games in the job.
The Guangzhou Evergrande manager took over the hot seat from fellow Italian Marcello Lippi, who departed in January after China’s exit from the Asia Cup.
Cannavaro was in charge for the annual China Cup in Nanning where he oversaw losses to Thailand and Uzbekistan, teams that are both lower than China in the Fifa rankings.

While the former Italy defender, who won the World Cup under Lippi in 2006, has refused to commit to the job, reports suggest that some still back him to take over on a permanent basis, especially with Lippi looming as a consultant to the Chinese FA.
Others are clamouring for a new man and 54-year-old Klinsmann fits the bill.
As a player, Klinsmann scored 47 goals in 108 games for Germany and won the 1990 World Cup during an illustrious 17-year playing career.

Klinsmann’s coaching CV includes guiding Germany to a third-place finish at the 2006 World Cup and taking the US to the last-16 at Brazil 2014, as well as winning the 2013 Gold Cup.
He has not worked since leaving the US role in 2016, although he was linked to teams in the Chinese Super League at the time.
Most recently he has been mentioned as a replacement for Carlos Queiroz in the vacant Iran job.

Fittingly for the pro-Klinsmann camp, China’s next game is a friendly against Bayern Munich, a team Klinsmann played for and managed. The Allianz China Cup takes place in the National Stadium in Beijing on May 29.
Following that the national team has two friendlies in June – against Australia and North Korea – to prepare for the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers that begin in September and the EAFF-1 Championship in South Korea in December.
