Spain’s World Cup-winning goalkeeper Iker Casillas has reportedly been rushed to hospital after suffering a suspected heart attack during training with club team Porto.
The 37-year-old Casillas was “out of danger” but is still under medical care after the incident that occurred during training on Wednesday morning. Reports said he felt unwell during training and was taken off the field before he was rushed to hospital.
Casillas is one of the most successful goalkeepers in the modern era, spending most of his career at Spanish giants Real Madrid before moving to Porto in 2016.
He has played more than 1,000 professional games, winning 167 caps for Spain for which he was a key member of the 2010 World Cup-winning team.
Casillas was also a former Spain captain, leading his team to victory at the 2008 European Championship as well as World Cup glory in South Africa. He was nominated for the Ballon d’Or award in 2008, finishing fourth in the competition.
