After putting Liverpool to the sword with a deadly double including a majestic 600th career club goal for Barcelona, it was perhaps inevitable that Lionel Messi would get the Game of Thrones treatment on social media.
It didn’t take long for the memes to pop up on Twitter – and the best was undoubtedly created by eagle-eyed viewers who noticed one of the Argentine maestro’s fleeting facial expressions during the Champions League semi-final first leg at the Nou Camp.
Of course, it would be rude of us not to point out that Game of Thrones spoilers lie ahead, so please avert your eyes if you’ve not yet caught up on the latest episode of the hit HBO television show.
Indeed, Liverpool appeared to bring about their own undoing by trying to rough up Messi. That served only to fire him up and exact his revenge the only way he knows how – by scoring goals.
But it was after he had been bundled to the floor on the touchline by James Milner that Messi sat up and smirked.
