Etheridge has impressed in the top flight despite the club finally being relegated back to the Championship following a loss to Crystal Palace last weekend.

The stopper, who became the first Philippines international to play in the Premier League, was handed the award at a ceremony at Cardiff’s City Hall on Sunday night.

The London-born footballer has played 60 times for the Azkals although he missed the AFC Asian Cup at the start of the year in order to aid Cardiff’s fight against relegation.

They made it to the penultimate game of the season but were relegated after their 3-2 home defeat to Crystal Palace.
