Lionel Messi was reportedly confronted by several unhappy Barcelona fans in the airport on his way back to Spain after the club’s Champions League semi-final defeat by Liverpool.

The Barcelona captain arrived at the airport around 1am accompanied by his personal security guard and manager Pepe Costa, separate from the rest of the squad.

He had missed the team bus after undergoing anti-doping control, and a group of disgruntled supporters voiced their anger and insulted the 31-year-old at a security checkpoint after Barca blew a 3-0 first leg lead and lost 4-0 at Anfield.

“What’s your problem? What did I do? What did I do wrong?” Messi said to the fans, according to Spanish daily sports newspaper Mundo Deportivo.

The report says Messi was then dragged away by Costa, adding that another set of fans close by applauded the Argentine as he passed through security.
