Just when you thought World Cup winner Iker Casillas’ world couldn’t get any worse, he has suffered another hammer blow, this time involving his wife.
Casillas will probably not play again – at least not at the highest level – after collapsing during training with his club Porto following a heart attack three weeks ago.
And the 38-year-old former Real Madrid goalkeeper was given more distressing news in the aftermath of his crushing setback on May 1.
His wife, Sara Carbonero, made the shock announcement that she is battling ovarian cancer, taking to social media in an emotional post saying she knows the “road will be tough”.
“When we hadn’t yet recovered from one shock, life has surprised us again,” she said in her Instagram post, which was written in Spanish and translated by The Mirror. “‘This time it’s me, that six-letter word I still struggle to write.
