The Fifa Women’s World Cup has ended with the US beating the Netherlands 2-0 to win a record fourth world title.
Before they could pick up their trophy in Lyon the fans in the Olympic Stadium called on Fifa boss Gianni Infantino to pay women on an equal footing with the men.
“Equal pay,” they shouted in unison as the Swiss entered the field of play to oversee the handing out of the individual awards.
Megan Rapinoe was named player of the match and then handed the golden ball as the player of the tournament.

Rapinoe described the feeling of winning back to back titles. “It’s unbelievable.”
“We have all of our friends and family here. It’s surreal. It’s ridiculous”

Rapinoe praised fellow scorer Rose Lavelle and the group. “We have no quit in us. We will do anything to win.”
The 34-year-old was also given the golden boot for scoring six goals but in fewer minutes than teammate Alex Morgan and England’s Ellen White.
Morgan won the silver boot while Rose Lavelle won the bronze ball as the best youngster.

Netherlands goalkeeper Sari van Veenenveld won the golden glove for the best keeper at the tournament. She was congratulated on Twitter by US World Cup winner Hope Solo.
Equal pay was a theme within reaction online, with former tennis player Billie-Jean King among those to voice their backing.
“Congratulations to the #USWNT on their 4th World Cup win!,” King wrote.

King’s sentiments were shared by Serena Williams, who Tweeted from Wimbledon where she is competing.
“Congrats team USA!,” she wrote. “Billie says it best here!”

Williams shared King’s tweet calling for equal pay and added that she was “so happy for each one” of the team and “so proud”.
Former US president Barack Obama tweeted his congratulations.
“Yes! Fourth star,” he wrote.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, congratulated the team and thanked them for their “excellence, tenacity and champion’s spirit”.
AOC, as she is known, has invited Rapinoe and the team to visit the Capitol building after the golden boot winner said she would not go to the White House if invited by US president Donald Trump.
Her fellow politician, the California senator Dianne Feinstein also tweeted her thoughts.

Former US men’s team goalkeeper Tim Howard also got in on the action. “They did it!!” he wrote on Twitter.
Howard appeared in two Fifa World Cups with the men’s team.

Mia Hamm also congratulated the players that have followed in her footsteps.
“USA!!! World Champions!!,” Hamm wrote on Twitter, where she called the team “so amazing”.
Hamm won the 1991 and 1999 World Cups with the US team.

Former WWE star and chief brand officer Stephanie McMahon wrote that she was “unbelievably proud” of the team and “the example they continue to set for everyone, everywhere.
“They are not only the best female team in the world but they are the best TEAM in the world.
“Congratulations on your 4th Women’s World Cup championship!”
