Hong Kong Premier League 2019-20: Kitchee kick-off before champions Tai Po face R&F in opening games – full season fixture list

  • Last season’s MVP Igor Sartori meets former team on the opening weekend while league winning coach has moved to Eastern
  • Southern will swap Aberdeen for Mong Kok this season as building work forces them north

The opening weekend of fixtures for the Hong Kong Premier League have been confirmed. The season will start on Friday, August 30 and end on May 23 next year.

Kitchee take on newly promoted Happy Valley under the floodlights at Mong Kok Stadium to start a full schedule of matches on the opening weekend.

Champions Tai Po get their title defence under way with the visit of Guangzhou-based R&F on the Saturday, which will see them face their former player and last year’s league MVP Igor Sartori.

Tai Po’s league winning coach Lee Chi-kin also left in the close season and his Eastern side will head to Yuen Long in the early evening before KC Southern play their first game at their new home for this season.

With Aberdeen Sports Ground being renovated, Southern will play at Mong Kok Stadium this season and they will hope to ease in to their new surroundings with a win against new boys BC Rangers.

The Sunday action sees Lee Man and Pegasus battle it out in the final game of the weekend. They meet at Sham Shui Po Sports Ground.

The first few months of the season will be disrupted by a packed international schedule.

There are World Cup qualifiers for Mixu Paatelainen’s side in September, October and November before they travel to South Korea in December to play in the EAFF finals with China, Japan and the hosts.
