Uefa Champions League draw: Liverpool to face Atletico Madrid, Manchester City go up against Real Madrid in last-16

  • This season’s final will be held in Istanbul, Turkey
  • Chelsea will take on Bayern Munich, while Tottenham are paired with RB Leipzig
The draw for the last-16 of the Uefa Champions League was held in Nyon, Switzerland on Monday and it pitted reigning champions Liverpool against Atletico Madrid.

The holders booked an early return to the scene of their most recent European triumph, the Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid. The first leg of that tie will be in Spain.

Manchester City face Real Madrid, with the first leg also in Spain, while last year’s beaten finalists Tottenham Hotspur will play RB Leipzig, hosting the Germans in the first leg. Chelsea will go up against Bayern Munich.

The final next year will be held at the Ataturk Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey this season.

The last-16 first leg ties are set to be played on February 18/19/25/26, and the second legs will be played on March 10/11/17/18.

Liverpool defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in last year’s final in Madrid, the Reds’ sixth triumph.

Elsewhere in the draw, Borussia Dortmund will play Paris Saint-Germain, Champions League debutants Atalanta will face Valencia, Lyon were drawn against Juventus and Napoli face Barcelona.
