Chinese Super League called off by FA over coronavirus
- Indefinite suspension of football at all levels by Chinese FA comes amid reports foreign star signings want out of China
- Women’s football team are quarantined in Brisbane hotel ahead of Tokyo 2020 qualifiers
The Chinese Football Association has indefinitely suspended domestic football with immediate effect, it announced in a statement on Thursday.
The CFA said it will liaise with the relevant authorities to determine if and when football will resume and any announcements will be made in due course.
The news means the Chinese Super League does not yet have a start date, with the Daily Mail reporting that some of the CSL’s foreign stars are looking to return to Europe before the transfer window closes on Friday night.
China’s top flight had been planned to start on February 22 but had been moved back to April, in line with the response from other sports to the virus. Before the Lunar New Year the CFA had already called off the Chinese Super Cup scheduled for February 5.
