China amateur football team let in 100 goals in protest at refereeing – Guangdong authorities vow to investigate

An amateur football tournament in west Guangdong this week recorded a stunning 100-3 result in the third place play-off, with authorities vowing to investigate.

Following the easing of the Covid-19 pandemic in China, many local football tournaments took place during the International Labour Day Holidays to give people something to cheer, including one in Qinba Town of Wuchuan City in Guangdong province.

However, the 14,000 fans that watched online coverage of the third place play-off in the Ding Long Cup between Caiwu and Milang were left open-mouthed as the score hit 100-3 to Milang with 20 minutes left, which was also the final score.

Caiwu were apparently aggrieved at the referring in the semi-final, which they lost to Potang, and opened their goal in the third place play-off, allowing their opponents to score at will.

In the semi-final, there were a number of calls made against Caiwu, including a clear penalty as the match finished at 1-1 and went into a penalty shoot-out.
