Vitor Pereira’s Shanghai SIPG moved into pole position in group B of the abridged Chinese Super League season on Wednesday night with a comprehensive 3-0 win against Chongqing Lifan in Suzhou.
Goals from Marko Arnautovic, Wang Shenchao and a fourth of the season for Oscar ensured SIPG moved four points clear of Beijing Guoan at the summit at the halfway point in the group stage. Guoan play their game in hand against Shijiazhuang Ever Bright on Thursday.
The 2018 CSL champions went in front on 18 minutes when Austrian Arnautovic steered in a superb cross from the right for his fourth goal of the campaign.
SIPG doubled their lead just two minutes later when Wang capitalised on some hideous defending by the Chongqing back line.


Oscar rounded off the scoring on 65 minutes after some cute play by Arnautovic and Wang left the Brazilian with a chance to pick his spot from the edge of the area.
SIPG’s next game is against Tianjin Teda, who remain rooted to the foot of group B after a fifth straight loss on Wednesday.

Despite taking an early lead against Wuhan Zall through Johnathan, the Northern China outfit were pegged back in the second half through a penalty from Jean Kouassi. Liao Junjian completed the comeback for Wuhan, who moved into third spot in group B, on 82 minutes.
In the evening’s other match, Henan Jianye and Shanghai Shenhua played out a drab 0-0 draw that was short on quality in the Dalian-based group A.
