Cedric Bakambu scored four goals as Beijing Guoan routed Chongqing Lifan 5-2 in the Chinese Super League on Tuesday night in Suzhou.

The DR Congo striker came into the game having scored in Beijing’s last three matches and he continued the streak by opening the scoring in the 12th minute, slotting home from a Zhang Xizhe through ball.

Bakambu made it two before the break, after a VAR consultation, as he swept home a Wang Zhiming centre following a swift counter attack. There was still time for Allan Kardec to nod home Adrian Mierzejewski’s looped cross to make the score 2-1 at halftime.

It did not stay that way for long. Wang got in on the scoring, this time with Bakambu turning provider, stroking home from the edge of the area just after the restart.

Bakambu completed his hat-trick on 49 minutes, reacting first to a loose ball, and then scored his fourth of the night slamming home a Zhang pass. The four-goal haul makes him top scorer this season.

“It’s the first time in my career that I scored four goals in one match, which makes me very happy. What’s more delightful is that we have nailed the important victory after three unsatisfying matches,” Bakambu said.
