Amazon’s Spurs: All or Nothing documentary faces ‘racist’ Son Heung-min subtitle controversy
- Viewers have complained that Tottenham Hotspur striker Son Heung-min is subtitled as ‘shouting’ in bust-up with goalkeeper Hugo Lloris
- South Korean media report that fans have written to the streaming giant to demand an explanation after online backlash

Amazon Prime’s fly-on-the-wall Tottenham Hotspur “All or Nothing” documentary series has come under fire for its treatment of South Korean striker Son Heung-min, with the show’s makers being accused of racism.
In the final episode of the nine-part series, which saw the last three streamed on Monday, the main talking point is an argument between Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and Son.
Lloris accuses Son of not tracking back just before half-time in an English Premier League game against Everton on July 6, almost costing a goal.
While club captain and French international Lloris has all of his words subtitled, the striker – who is also speaking in accented English – is subtitled merely as “[SHOUTING]”.
In fact, Son said, “I haven’t done anything wrong.” He also said in English, “Where is your respect for me? I respected you.”
Viewers pointed out that before Son speaks in the changing room, full-back Serge Aurier’s French is translated into English for the subtitles.
