Zico, the Brazil captain from the magical 1982 and 1986 World Cup sides, showed former journalist Ricardo Setyon a bunch of his old jerseys and said “take your pick”.

Setyon chose three, including the Flamengo shirt Zico wore when they beat Liverpool in the 1981 Intercontinental Cup and his Kashima Antlers shirt from his J. League days. Zico then added something special.

“I wanted to give this campaign something unique,” Zico told the Post in an email. “And I found a cup that was designed and made in Japan especially for my birthday. I thought this would represent exactly what I see in this campaign: uniqueness and open heart.”

The campaign Zico refers to is the Ole No Corona initiative launched by Setyon – a veteran Brazilian journalist and former Fifa communications officer – to raise money to buy essential Covid-19 prevention supplies, such as face masks, for Sao Paulo’s 300,000 homeless people.

Zico, former captain Cafu, high-profile players, journalists and others who have collected sporting memorabilia from major events are contributing items for auction.
