Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min made history on Sunday as the first Asian player to score four goals in a game in Europe’s top five leagues.
The South Korean superstar ran riot for Spurs in their 5-2 away win over Southampton in the English Premier League.
“I think it’s a big honour for me,” he told Spurs TV after the game. “I’m grateful for having this opportunity, I’m grateful for the teammates, especially to Harry [Kane].
Son scored with all four of his shots in the game, with each goal assisted by Spurs and England skipper Kane in what Son described as an “amazing, amazing performance”.


“I’m very happy, I’m very proud and I’m very grateful,” Son added.
The 28-year-old became the first Asian player to score an English Premier League hat-trick since Manchester United’s Japan midfielder Shinji Kagawa netted a treble against Norwich City in 2013.


This was his first hat-trick for the club since joining from Germany’s Bayer Leverkusen in 2015.
Australia’s Mark Viduka scored four for Leeds United against Liverpool in 2000 but the Socceroos were still part of the Oceania Football Confederation at the time, only moving to the Asian Football Confederation in 2006.
Son became the first Asian to reach 50 English Premier League goals last campaign and he also won the official goal of the season for his wonder strike against Burnley.
