Spurs star Son Heung-min has been named the South Korean men’s player of the year by the Korean Football Association, they announced on Monday.

This is the fifth time that the 28-year-old has won the honour and the second year in a row, extending his own record as the nation’s most honoured male footballer.

The English Premier League star first won in it 2013 while in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen and retained it the following year. He then won it again in 2017, the first time since moving to Spurs in 2015.

This year he came ahead of Jeonbuk Hyundai’s Son Jun-ho and Ahn Byung-jun, of Suwon FC.

Son is having a stand-out season with Spurs, being named the EPL player of the month for October, and he became the first Asian to score 50 English Premier League goals.

He is also up for the Puskas Award for goal of the year at Fifa’s The Best Awards for his solo strike against Burnley in the league last December.
