Spurs forward Son Heung-min wins Puskas Award for ‘one of greatest goals’
- ‘Pace, power, persistence and clinical finishing all on show,’ says Fifa in praise of South Korean’s goal for Spurs against Burnley
- Son says solo effort was ‘a wonderful goal, but to pick up this award makes me feel unbelievably grateful’

Tottenham forward Son Heung-min’s exceptional goal against Burnley in the Premier League last season earned him the Puskas Award at the 2020 Best Fifa Football Awards in Zurich on Thursday night.
Spur blitzed the match 5-0 in North London on December 7, 2019, but it was Son’s first-half goal, the third for the home team, that amazed football fans around the world.
The South Korea international produced a wonderful solo effort, running 94 yards from the edge of his own 18-yard box and beating a number of Burnley players before scoring in a thrilling 12 seconds.
“I have incredible emotions tied to this goal and to this award,” said Son after the awards ceremony. “It was a wonderful goal, but to pick up this award makes me feel unbelievably grateful. I would like to thank everybody who voted for me.”

Fifa praised the goal, saying it “showcased everything that has led Tottenham Hotspur fans to fall in love with their Korea Republic star, with pace, power, persistence and clinical finishing all on show”.
