Tokyo Olympics 2020: US men’s football team fail to qualify for Games after loss to Honduras
- The US men’s team have now not qualified for the Olympics since the Beijing 2008 Games

And for the third time the US came up one goal short on Sunday, losing to Honduras 2-1 in a chippy, physical semi-final of the Concacaf pre-Olympic tournament on a warm afternoon in Guadalajara, Mexico.
The win sends Honduras to the Summer Games for a fourth straight time while the Americans, who haven’t qualified since 2008, will have to wait three more years for another chance.
“We’re devastated,” US manager Jason Kreis said.
Mexico met Canada in the other semi-final on Sunday with Concacaf’s second berth in the Tokyo Olympics on the line.
This time the Americans were done in by some of their own, with Juan Carlos Obregon, who was born in New York and played college soccer in the US, and Luis Enrique Palma, who once played for Real Salt Lake’s USL affiliate, scoring Honduras’ goals either side of half-time. Both goals bounced in off US goalkeeper David Ochoa.
