Hong Kong footballer Jack Sealy brings Sauce to Central with barbershop

Former Chinese Super League right-back Jack Sealy says life after football career has always been on his mind

With 23 caps for Hong Kong, Sealy says sees new venture as ideal mix of music, fashion and street culture

Jack Sealy’s football career is still ongoing, but the Hong Kong representative team member already has one foot firmly placed in his next professional endeavour.

In December Sealy opened up Sauce, a barbershop in Central along with business partner Sean O’Connor, an offshoot of travelling the world playing the sport he loves. Sealy got his first cap for Hong Kong in 2013 against Myanmar and since has been able to circle the globe, while also checking out local cultures in the process.

“I’ve always thought barbershops were cool,” said the 33-year-old right back who currently plays his club football with Southern in the Hong Kong Premier League. “And after having been overseas to a lot of different shops, I noticed that there a few things that can be done besides the barbering.

“I’ve always liked music, fashion and street culture,” said Sealy, “so thought it would be a great idea to tie it all together. I always wanted to do something for myself for when football finishes and have a bit of a focus for when I have to join the real world.”

Sealy, who also played in the Chinese Super League for two years, said the idea was to buck the trend of figuring out what he was going to do after he retired from football.
