Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min scored his 71st English Premier League goal with the winner over Manchester City in their season-opener. The goal gave Spurs the three points over the champions in a game that was under more scrutiny over the future of the Tottenham striker Harry Kane’s future, with the England skipper linked to Pep Guardiola’s team. “Are you watching, Harry Kane?” was the chant from the home fans at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, though Son told Sky Sports that he did not hear it. “Obviously, I was so focused so I couldn’t hear it. As I said, we are so professional,” Son said after the match. Son told the British broadcaster that all the players were focused ahead of the visit of the champions. “We are all professional and just wanted to focus on this game, it doesn’t matter who is involved and who is not. Everyone was really, really focused for this game. Son shines for Spurs but is he Asia’s greatest ever? “Harry is so, so important for us, but let’s see and let H prepare well for this season.” The South Korean scored 17 goals in the league last season and notched up 10 assists, ranking fourth best in both lists, with Kane topping both. Son’s strike took him past Manchester United’s Eric Cantona’s 70 goals in the all-time top scorer’s list and led to many social media users asking whether the South Korean will join the Frenchman in the Premier League Hall of Fame in the future. Cantona, who won four Premier League titles and two FA Cups at Manchester United, was among the first players inducted in the EPL Hall of Fame after inaugural inductees Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry. While a lack of silverware has led to Kane asking for a transfer, Son signed a new contract at Spurs this summer under new boss Nuno Espirito Santo. Son’s goal record is the second time that he has overtaken one of Cantona’s records. The Spurs forward was sent off three times in 2019, taking him past Cantona’s career red cards in the English top flight. 3 - Son Heung-Min is the first player to be sent off three times in a calendar year in the Premier League since Lee Cattermole in 2010. I do what I love, I should enjoy every moment. “That’s why they like me because I enjoy playing football, I’m happy. I have a big responsibility with this, but I don’t feel the pressure. I do what I love and I want to show that.”
